. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

First and foremost I want to say THANK YOU to Sara and Nicole for featuring me on their blog. I’m so very thankful for this amazing opportunity to share with you all something that is so near and dear to me, and has changed my perspective on health and wellness. My mission began on March 3rd, 2006 the day that my first daughter was born. I, like most first time moms, had so many overwhelming emotions, so much joy and happiness, and also a little bit (or a lot-o- bit) of fear and anxiety. Is she hungry, gassy, or tired? Is she too hot, too cold? Does she have a fever? Is she getting enough milk? Does she even LIKE me? Why is she crying? How do I DO this?!?!?

Birchbox Beauty Favorites

May 28, 2013

 :: BIRCHBOX FAVORITES ::

I love products…. but I certainly don’t go to beauty supply stores and shop for myself often. With four kids, it seems like all shopping these days is for them…. not mama! Birchbox is perfect for someone like me! At only ten dollars a month, I don’t feel bad with the small purchase. The added bonus is that you don’t pay additional shipping and it comes in the mail… so it’s like opening up a little present once a month! I had every intention of doing a monthly review of its contents… but that hasn’t happened… In fact, I’ve only done this one {which you can view here}. In lieu of the monthly review, I decided to share with you several of my favorite products that I have received over the past five months. All of my favorites are on the Birchbox Best Sellers list, which means I am not alone in my opinions! These products are of great quality and ones I will purchase for myself once my samples run out.

theBalm // Put A Lid On It

A little goes a long way with this amazing eyelid primer! I have used several other brands. This one happens to be less money, while still producing the same lasting, creaseless effect! Your shadows and eyeliner will stay on all day long! At times, I hesitate when about to wash off my eye makeup {at the end of the day} because it still looks perfect! I’m not one to sleep in my makeup, but I almost wonder if you could! You would probably wake up with your eyes looking flawless, assuming you’re a back sleeper! This product retails for $18.

Prep for Summer!

May 15, 2013

Nicole and I were recently asked to write another “Family Focus” article for our local community magazine! We are so excited to share it with you! The focus is on prepping for summer: getting organized, setting a summertime routine, planning activities, going on day trips, and adopting a few seasonal traditions for your family to enjoy and remember for years to come!

So, read on for a plethora of fresh summer ideas… and please feel free to add your own personal favorites in our comment section! We’d love to hear from you! Summer is right around the corner… We’re ready, are you?!!

It’s hard to believe that summer is right around the corner! Soon our children will be out of school and we will have the large task of keeping their minds and bodies busy in what we hope will be constructive play, quality time spent with friends and family, and educational outings.

Last summer, we sort of winged it… we hate to admit! Although we had every intention of having more structure during our time off, and sending our kids to a few summer camps, not all of our plans came to fruition. We did have our share of lazy beach days {which was great}, but we could have made a few minor adjustments that would have made a big difference in the functioning of our homes and the daily squabbles between siblings that ensued. We hope with a little more time spent on the planning and organizing phase, we will be able to execute a seamless summer spent enjoying each day with happy children! We hope to give you a few ideas on how you can do the same through setting time each day to get organized, having flexible routines and daily rituals, making a summer wish list of activities to do, and setting seasonal traditions to create memories that will last a lifetime {or, at the very least, will last until the beginning of next school year when they have to share what they did over the summer}!

What Ails Me… Migraines

March 27, 2013

A couple of months ago, I hit a new low

{which is one of the reasons I finally headed back to the doctor after years of not going}.

Husby was at work for a 48-hr shift and I was home with my four little ones.

I had a migraine that was so bad…

that my oldest son {age 8} had to make ego waffles for his siblings for dinner

{so embarrassing to admit}….

I found myself running to the toilet to vomit…

I was sure that this was going to be it…

the time that my brain would finally cease and I would die of a brain aneurism or something

{however unrealistic that actually may be}.

My 6 year old, plagued with a look of helplessness and fear, came running…

asking if I was ok.

He took it upon himself to get me a hair tie.

Later that night, after the pain lessened to a point I could tolerate…

my oldest son took me to the prayer box in my bedroom…

with tears in his eyes, he showed me a handwritten letter on a small piece of paper….

a prayer to God,

asking Him to make his mommy feel better.

I was completely overwhelmed and brought to tears with the sheer sweetness of his heart….

that his initial instinct was to pray.

I was crushed,

at the same time…

thinking about the affects this would have on my children….

seeing their mommy so frequently sick with migraines.

5 Favorite Walking Trails

January 23, 2013

5 favorite walking trails

is a hard number to narrow down to.

Walking to me is much like yoga,

there are times I walk with the kids in tow

and there are magical times that I get to walk all alone

listening to nature or my favorite tunes.

{no kids bop allowed}

It’s a chance to see what is going on around me as well as a time

to breathe, slow down, and just be!

Sara and I live about 15 minutes inland

{when the lights are forgiving}

from the beach allowing us to

enjoy the trails here in town

or down near the ocean.

Due to the kid’s school schedule,

it is often easiest to take the time and walk the trails here.

I can say that we live in a community that is very rare.

It is master planned, but it is one of the few

in the United States that is owned by a family that

believed in open spaces and building the homes within a

designated area leaving the natural land in tact.

We border the O’neill Regional Park.

The trails here are not map specified but are well known in

our community.

From my home my first spot is the trail surrounding it.

Here is the view that I am lucky enough to see on a daily basis

Favorite Trail # 1:

Ladera Ranch Trail

You are really at one with nature.

Perfect, as well, for a bike ride with the kids.

Lucky enough I had my camera in the bike trailer so

I could stop to take this picture.

Ladera Trails oaks via simply happenstance

There are so many beautiful trees to view,

especially the oaks that line the trail that can be well

over 100 years old.

Favorite Trail #2

Nature Interpretive Trail Center

This trail is magnificent on a clear day.

I know that is a big word to describe a walking trail,

but it is.

It is the Pacific Ocean as it is meant to be viewed

here in Southern California.

The trail though developed off

of the Headlands in Dana Point,

was secured and sanctioned by the

city as a Nature Trail as

a way to keep the natural scenery and

vegetation in tack from homes

being built along this trail.

It is a rare and peaceful hidden gem here in

South Orange County.

Fun Orange County Parks has complete directions to the Center

and information regarding the trail walking times as

well as some other awesome park and hiking information.

While you are doing that take a minute to enjoy these

Ocean Views.

The walk is absolutely breathtaking on a clear day.

During certain times of the year there are beautiful wildflowers

that grow along the path.

It is a perfect walk to find some zen or it is fun

for the kids to hike along.

Strollers won’t work on the path unless

you want to throw out your back…

as it is pure sand and dirt.

The path is about 1 mile in length.

My kids like hiking it and being on the

lookout for whales and dolphins.

{I was blessed to see some whales last week.}

Favorite Trail #3

Strands Beach

As a family we love Strands Beach in Dana Point.

It is beautiful, has free parking, and better yet,

a funicular!

For a child who is a major fan of trains it is

a wonderful place to go and

load up the funicular and travel down

on its single cog wheel.

{that was a total Mason factoid}

This beach is popular with the locals but

it is hard to go to as it has a million steps down

if you can not take the funicular.

What makes it wonderful is that those steps

create quite a workout.

You can park along Selva Road at the top of the

hill and start the walk going down the first

set of stairs,

or you can combine it with the Nature Interpretive Center walk

which drops you off on Selva Road.

This will create a longer walk.

But no ones looking at the clock when these are the

views you are consuming on a clear California day.

Favorite Trail #4

Salt Creek Walking Trail

This trail has fond memories for me.

I used to walk this trail twice a week when

Mason had speech.

I had exactly one hour to do this walk.

Madeline was a small baby,

so after I dropped him off I drove

down the street and parked off of Camino Del Avion

and walked down the dirt trail on the right of the street

just over the bridge.

This trail is wonderful.

You feel like you are in another world.

You are on a dirt path for some time and then after

you enter through the tunnel

you see the wonderful light

and full ocean views.

This walk can be 5 miles round trip.

It is a great workout and goes by fast

as the scenery sucks you in.

Favorite Trail #5

Orange County Regional Trail-The Ridge

This trail starts in my town.

It is not for any one scared of snakes or coyotes.

It is a true hiking trail that takes you along the ridge of

our town and can drop you into San Juan Capistano

which allows you take in some gorgeous views of Dana Point.

Or if you know your trails well in my town you

can take this trail for a bit and wind down to another

trail called the Sienna Botanica Trail.

You really need to be on your toes as in

making sure you are aware of your nature surroundings.

That being said it is quiet and beautiful,

these pictures were taken with my phone

{instead of lugging around a camera},

a stroller or my dog was not an option for me on this trail.

So the next time the sun is shining and you have

a little time to enjoy the outdoors,

grab your shoes and go on one of these

delightful walks!
