:: Halloween Rice Krispie Treats ::
Do you have fond childhood memories of eating homemade rice krispie treats? My kids love them, and I’m pretty sure they’ll have happy memories of us whipping up batches together! Of course the original recipe using creamy butter, gooey marshmallows, and crunchy rice krispies is super tasty… but why not kick it up a notch by adding in some Halloween fun?!

Have you spotted the Halloween Oreos yet? There’s something about the bright orange frosting, spooky jack-o-lanterns, and bats that seem to make them even more enticing! Don’t you think?! The crushed up Oreos and Halloween colored sprinkles, are the little extras, that make this recipe an instant kid favorite!

If you have little ones, chances are, you may have the original Rice Krispie Treat recipe memorized! {3 tablespoons butter + a bag of jet-puffed marshmallows + 6 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal!} Simply add in about 10 crushed Halloween Oreo’s and a few good shakes of sprinkles and you’ll have the most delicious Halloween treat!

To make the Rice Krispie Treats even more festive… I chose to make them in a smaller square pan {9 x 9 x 2} to ensure that they would be plenty thick! I then placed them in the refrigerator for approximately one hour before cutting into large rectangles.

Next, I stuck a cute paper straw through the middle, so that the kids could use it as a handle as they ate their treats!

Even though the treats were chilled, I had no problem getting the paper straw inserted into the middle.

If you are planning to have a Halloween Bash… these might just be the perfect sweet treat to serve your guests! They’d also make spooktacularly delicious after school snacks!

My four little ones were pretty excited when I let them devour one each! Can you tell?!

Halloween Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 package marshmallows {10 ounces or about 40}
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 Oreos
- Halloween colored sprinkles
Instructions
- Coarsely crush 10 Oreos in a large zip block bag {using your hands, or a rolling pin}. Set aside.
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated. Quickly add in crushed Oreos and a few good dashes of sprinkles {a couple tablespoons worth}. Stir until even distributed.
- Using a buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press the mixture into a 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan, that has been coated with cooking spray. {I used coconut oil spray.} Cool. Cut into squares and serve!
- {If desired, refrigerate until firm {about 45-60 minutes}, cut into rectangles and insert a paper straw into each.}
Notes
For best results, use fresh marshmallows.
-1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow crème can be substituted for marshmallows.
-Diet, reduced calorie or tub margarine is not recommended.
-Store no more than two days at room temperature in airtight container.
-To freeze, place in layers separated by wax paper in airtight container. Freeze for up to 6 weeks. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving. Original recipe from Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal can be found here: https://www.ricekrispies.com/recipes/the-original-treats

If giving away to neighbors, teachers, or friends… you could even package them in a simple cellophane bag and secure with a ribbon! Totally cute… and so simple! Enjoy!
