{Date Night Ideas}

March 26, 2013

Date night ideas are a must for any couple.

One of our favorite “date night in” ideas is

having some of our favorite wine paired with cheese,

combined with a savory pasta dish,

or a simple cheese board sampling

when the kids go to bed.

Our love for wine started after college.

It has taken some maturity to truly understand how

“magical” wine can be when paired with the right food.

Though we were married almost 10 years ago at

Falkner Winery in Temecula,

it was not until we were gifted the experience

of a private wine tour in Napa at

The Robert Mondavi Winery,

that we were educated in the whole wine experience

{thanks, Mary}!

We had been wine tasting many times before…

the actual education of wine pairings and the making of wine,

by an amazing sommelier helped “wine” made sense.

It opened up my pallet to experience all types of wine varietals.

These varietals vary from different regions.

I favor the New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs

and the California Reds.

To keep ourselves trying new wines and regions,

Shane and I joined one of our favorite restaurant’s Wine Clubs,

The Cellar in San Clemente

It is an amazing wine bar with a full cheese shop.

Their wine club,

Club Orange, is a quarterly wine pick up.

No commitments.

There are three different levels all in which

include a wine and cheese chosen by them.

The night of the release,

wine club members are treated to an exclusive educational

tasting and pairing of the seasonal wines.

I can’t begin to explain how wonderful this club is……

Here is a viewing of my last party pickup.

Simple yet cute packaging…

our wine and cheese make for a lovely “date night in!”

It has been a treat for us being able to taste their choices of

wine and cheese in the comforts of our own home.

It is not always easy finding a sitter,

but with our wine club,

it creates a wonderful reason to put forth effort of

creating an ambiance of a date night out without the

sounds from a crowded restaurant or a long unexpected wait.

I highly recommend checking out The Cellar’s website to

find out more about their wine club,

as well as their two other shop locations in

Orange County.

Another way to create a “date night in with wine”

is picking up a bottle or two of wine and cheese you may not

have tried before…

a step outside of your usual varietal.

I love having a subscription to Sunset Magazine.

Sunset’s monthly magazine lists seasonal wines that are broken

down by region, as well as, the notes that create the body of wine.

They often list perfect cheese and food pairings, as well as, recipes.

So the next time plans get cancelled

or maybe it has been a long week…

pick up a bottle of wine and some cheese and

create a simple “date night in!”
