{Weekend Lovelies}

 :: Weekend Lovelies ::

Jingle bells, Jingle bells, the weekend has arrived….oh what fun it is to be celebrating this holiday season!  I can’t believe we only have one more weekend until Christmas! Not to add any more stress to your already full plate, but I really can’t believe it.  Where oh where did this year go?  One minute it was January 2013, and now we are here today with a few weeks left in the year.

This edition of weekend lovelies is a possible wish list of all the glorious finds that I seem to always come across when I am supposed to be shopping for others.  Since I am on a budget and not living in the days in which I would buy one for you and one for me {life before kids}, I do covet a wish list.  One of them I was able to get a little before Christmas, hence the magical find of these Frye Boots at Nordstrom Rack.  I am so very thankful for a little early holiday gift!  I hope that you will add a few of these favorite finds that Sara and I love to your own wish list. I heard Santa Claus is coming town…..hope you enjoy some of these picks! [Read more…]

Burrata and Roasted Tomato Appetizer

December 5, 2013

Burrata and Roasted Tomato:: Burrata and Roasted Tomato Appetizer ::

The stockings are hung by the chimney with care, as the calendar continues to get filled by things here and there.  Are you feeling a bit like me?  Hoping to take in these small moments to enjoy what the season is all about, but have been asked to bring an appetizer to an event.  This Burrata and Roasted Tomato Appetizer is a win win for all.  It’s simple, tasty, and doesn’t require too much prep time or cook time.  It really is that easy.

I have to be honest with you, I more often than not love an appetizer that requires multiple steps and takes a bit of time to prepare.  I feel those are the dishes that taste the best and look the best on a platter, but that is entirely the wrong approach when it comes to the holidays.  The company we keep and the family we see is what should require the most of our time.  Simple is best right?!? Good flavors and a nice glass of wine paired with a lovely dish really can make an evening worth the run around.

Pumpkin Dessert Squares

November 26, 2013

Pumpkin Squares

:: Pumpkin Dessert Squares ::

This week is the kick-off to all of our dessert consumption from now until New Year’s Eve.  Well, for me it usually goes beyond that, but I try! I have said it once, twice, three times “I LIKE PUMPKIN!” Too much, but lucky for me it coordinates well with this upcoming holiday. These Pumpkin Dessert Squares remind me of the homey smell of my Grandma Joan’s kitchen on Thanksgiving Day.  She always had a pot of mulling spices heated in a mini crock pot. The joyous aroma of nutmeg blended with pecans and pumpkin brings me back to my childhood.  Thankfully, I came across this recipe right after I got married and it has been a family favorite ever since.  What makes these Pumpkin Dessert Squares so special is the main ingredient called Muirhead’s Pecan Pumpkin Putter.  It can be found at Williams Sonoma.

Homemade Fudgesicles

August 20, 2013

:: Homemade Fudgesicles ::

Homemade Fudgesicles are the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.  They are a simple and refreshing dessert that can be created with your kids.  Ice pops in general, feature a few quality ingredients that allow for a healthier dessert.  I don’t know about you, but in our house… dessert is a must! With my sweet tooth, and the kids following not far behind, homemade pops are easy to control the sugary sweetness. Not-to-mention, they only require a few simple tools to create. I like to use Tovolo Pop Molds.  This recipe can also be used with Zoku Quick Ice Pop Makers, or even using a small disposable water cup with old-fashioned wooden sticks.  My kids enjoyed helping and testing the chocolate mixture, as well as, having a taste or two of the chopped chocolate.  Home economics at it’s finest, allows for a teachable yet fun moment with family!  This classic recipe makes you remember why you loved getting one of these from the ice cream truck as a kid! {weekend} lovelies

May 17, 2013

:: Weekend Lovelies ::

I rarely plan weekend lovelies. Sometimes I bookmark things I come across during the week, but more often than not… I sit at the computer and just let my mind wander. It’s almost therapeutic… leaving the week behind me and letting my mind take over as my fingers dash across the keyboard searching the contents of my subconscious. After a trying week keeping up with my favorite four and Husby’s unrelenting work schedule, I was clearly in the mood for all things light, bright, and pretty — but mostly as they relate to cooking, kitchens, and entertaining. Enjoy, friends … and have a lovely weekend! {xo}
