Homemade Fudgesicles

:: Homemade Fudgesicles ::
Homemade Fudgesicles are the perfect way to cool down on a hot day. They are a simple and refreshing dessert that can be created with your kids. Ice pops in general, feature a few quality ingredients that allow for a healthier dessert. I don’t know about you, but in our house… dessert is a must! With my sweet tooth, and the kids following not far behind, homemade pops are easy to control the sugary sweetness. Not-to-mention, they only require a few simple tools to create. I like to use Tovolo Pop Molds. This recipe can also be used with Zoku Quick Ice Pop Makers, or even using a small disposable water cup with old-fashioned wooden sticks. My kids enjoyed helping and testing the chocolate mixture, as well as, having a taste or two of the chopped chocolate. Home economics at it’s finest, allows for a teachable yet fun moment with family! This classic recipe makes you remember why you loved getting one of these from the ice cream truck as a kid! Weekend Lovelies

:: Weekend Lovelies ::
Welcome to our Weekend Lovelies! Oh my this week has been a blur. Sara and I have been chasing summer, hoping to catch it and keep it for a little while longer. Summer seems to be that great indicator of a new year on the rise. September, like it’s autumnal meaning, is the time of harvest and change. We have watched our kiddos grow so much over the past school year, and especially over the summer while spending quality family time together. I would love to bottle up these moments and slow life down a bit. This weekend lovelies is a little musical, a little decorative, a little drink, and most of all… a little relaxing. We hope you take the time to sit back relax and savor a moment for yourself. Enjoy! [Read more…]

I’d Marry You All Over Again…

:: I’d Marry You All Over Again ::
This week marks our 16 years together and 11 years of marriage {whoo hoo}! I wish I could tell you that we have some spectacular plans to celebrate… but that’s surely not the case {not with a recent move, four kids, and the beginning of our homeschool journey}! It’s sort of fitting, however. I feel like we’ve passed the initial excitement of being freshly married, the tumultuous first years of getting into a groove, and even the “seven year itch!” We’re settling into a cozy, quieter type of love. The kind where you feel safe with the other person, and supported no matter what crazy ideas you may have. The type of love where you’re secure in the feeling that the other person is in it for the long haul…truly through sickness and in health, good times and in bad… in joy, as well as in sorrow. The kind of love where you are content and happy just having a peaceful date night at home {as long as there’s a happy ending involved… whether it’s ice cream or the steamier kind}! It’s a wonderful type of love…. [Read more…]
Strawberry Delight Appetizer

:: Strawberry Delight Appetizer ::
Who doesn’t love an easy summer appetizer, especially one that entails strawberries and cream cheese? This appetizer as I deem Strawberry Delight, truly is a simple delight. The ingredients that are combined to make this savory yet sweet appetizer are a great edition to your next party. This appetizer has been a go to for far too many years to count. As food generally has a story, this appetizer tells the story of my life with my girlfriends and roommates back during my early twenties. Such fond and fun memories of 4th of July’s, beach days, roller skates, and boat parades. What I believe to be most fun is this recipe was passed my way from my dear friend, Stephanie. I had one of these bite sized Strawberry Delight Appetizer’s at one of her fun family parties. It was from then on, we made this yummy recipe at every event we hosted or toasted to, not to mention it’s great with a glass of champagne.

Chicken Pesto Pasta

:: Chicken Pesto Pasta ::
Oh Chicken Pesto Pasta… how I love thee. I have a pasta addiction. If you were to ask me what my favorite meal would include, it would have to be some sort of pasta. I know I have a little Italian buried somewhere in my lineage {wink}. Though it is summer and some of you can’t think of eating a heavy meal, this light yet savory sauce makes this pasta not as weighing as a traditional lasagna. This pasta was created from a combination of herbs and tomatoes from my garden box, basil pesto sauce, and burrata cheese. Giada’s first book, Every Day Italian, has a ton of hidden gems and basic sauces that can be built into entirely creative pasta meals. Easy, simple, and delicious. It is one of my favorite Italian cookbooks. As for the garden boxes… in this sunny yet mild California climate for summer, my basil and sun burst yellow tomatoes have taken off like crazy! So why not combine the two with chunks of creamy burrata cheese? [Read more…]
Strawberry Lemon Zest Yogurt Pops
:: Strawberry Lemon Zest Yogurt Pops ::
One of my dear friends gave me these Zoku Mini Pop Molds at the end of the school year for being one of her room parents {Such a great gift idea!}. Since we are nearly settled into our new house, I thought it was about time to pull them out of the box and whip up a delicious summer treat for my littles!
I don’t know about your kids, but mine rarely finish an entire large popsicle. Inevitably, it ends up as one sticky mess {which may be half the fun}! They either grow tired of the flavor, or end up dropping the leftovers on the ground, it seems. These Zoku Mini Pops are honestly the perfect size! While they are much smaller than your average ice pop, I did find that the kids were still able to spend several fun-filled minutes enjoying them! [Read more…]
Weekend Lovelies
:: Weekend Lovelies ::
Welcome August! How can it be? Summer seems to be fleeting and some of us will be hearing the ringing of school bells shortly. Sara is busily preparing for a year of home schooling, and I am trying to learn to breathe from a little bit of anxiety I have for First Grade. Life changes and new experiences often create a little anxiety. I know Sara and I have often spoken about ways to handle worry in a positive manner. While preparing for Weekend Lovelies, I came across this beautiful picture {image via thereislovetobefound} above, as well as, a piece of advice from Soulseeds, “When anxiety is crowding out joy, take in a larger perspective. If your direction seems all-wrong, look for a larger right. If things are falling apart, raise your sights to see something better falling together. Be willing to say “no” in order to clear the way for a much deeper “YES!” Perspective makes life feel SO spacious.” So let out a deep “OM” and enjoy some of our beautiful weekend picks! {xo} [Read more…]
