Gift Ideas for Teacher Appreciation

May 16, 2013

Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas are always needed this time of the year. With Mason, we have a “team” of what I like to refer as “angels” that help him to continue to progress in his main stream classroom with his peers. How do you find a way to say how much you appreciate them? Due to the number of people that are in his support team, I am often pondering ways in which I can purchase special “thank you” gifts to show our appreciation.

Like most of you, the end of the school year can be expensive and overwhelming with the amount of “stuff” that is due all at once.  So a couple of years ago, I decided to make simple gifts for our team that would last for more than just that week of “appreciation.” I decided to put together little succulent pots for his teachers/support team, that they could watch grow over time with minimal upkeep.

This simple little pot takes a few products to create it, but in the long run you can use them to make birthday gifts for friends and family when needed. First things first, you need to visit a gardening center to purchase these little succulents from.  I went to Home Depot where most of these mini plants are under two dollars.

Then of course you need a stylish pot. I like to find pots over time at HomeGoods that are a bit more original or I like to buy small terracotta ones that I can paint a fun color. You will also need a bag of cactus soil for your pot. Simply fill the pot half way with soil.  Place the plant in the pot with a little room for some additional soil on top.  Next comes the fun, I like to mix in a moss varietal from Michaels, as well as colored rocks that are used for fish tanks.

Cute, easy, and inexpensive.  Who doesn’t love a homemade gift, especially one that doesn’t need a ton of attention? When in doubt, a couple easy options are cupcakes or flowers from your yard. You can always win someone over with flowers or sweets. Click {here} for our favorite cupcake recipe.  Hope you all enjoy your last weeks of school, and remember simple is always the best plan of all.  Here are some of my latest blooms from my yard that I plan on giving to a special someone…..
