If you’ve been browsing your local bookstore or walking through the aisles of Target or Wal-Mart, then maybe you’ve seen these book covers:
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire was published last year to AMAZING reviews. This is Abby Abernathy’s story. Abby meets the college’s walking one-night stand, Travis Maddox and does everything in her power to avoid and reject him. Little does she know that he has his sights on her. Travis is a living, breathing sex-on-a-stick bad boy with the tattoos and attitude to back up his reputation. This is not a fairy tale romance with rainbows and ponies. There is violence, sex, a whole lot of cussing and so much angst that it makes you want to reach into the book and smack both of them upside their heads.
I adored this book and even re-read it multiple times. I fell in love with Travis immediately, especially when he began to call Abby by his nickname for her, Pigeon. There is something about reading a book about college-aged kids that makes you relive your early years.
Now once you finish with Beautiful Disaster, you can then treat yourself to Walking Disaster. This is not a sequel – Beautiful Disaster is a stand alone novel with a beginning, middle and end. Walking Disaster is basically Beautiful Disaster told from Travis’ point of view. This is not just a re-telling of the same story. You get a much deeper understanding of Travis and why he did the things he did in Beautiful Disaster. It is a fantastic companion novel and it makes you fall in love with Travis and Beautiful Disaster even more.
Now I LOVED Walking Disaster. I loved being inside Travis’ head. I loved hearing his perspective – I loved everything about this book. I did re-read Beautiful Disaster before jumping into Walking Disaster and I’m so glad I did. There were extra scenes scattered throughout the book so that it was not just a re-telling of the same story. The biggest extra I got was the Walking Disaster Epilogue. It really gave the conclusion to Abby and Travis’ story. Did I love the Epilogue…not really, but I think that is because I never wanted the story to end.
There is a reason these books made Jamie McGuire a New York Times and USA Today Best Seller. Believe the hype and buy the books! You will not be disappointed!
