DIY Jewelry Organizer and Giveaway

January 21, 2014

Do It Yourself Jewelry Orgaznizer

:: DIY Jewelry Organizer and Giveaway ::

I love the New Year!  It’s a chance to refresh and revisit what needs to be prioritized and organized.  This DIY Jewelry Organizer is a fantastic way to keep your jewelry at bay! We hope you are inspired to create your own!

Before we get to the tutorial… Sara and I are excited to offer you a chance to win a pretty baubled bracelet from Stella and Dot’s Spring Collection.  We love GIVEAWAYS!  The lucky winner can add this Amelie Sparkle Bracelet in Peach to their arm candy!  {I think I might need this bracelet too, and a few others from their Spring Collection!}

Read ahead for your chance to win… but first we need to get our jewelry organized!  Not a small feat, as before this project I had three old dusty jewelry boxes that were becoming more of a place to play for Madeline, than for me to actually use and see what was in them!  My dear friend, Erica, inspired this jewelry organizer.  If you visit her closet, she has her jewelry organized in a similar fashion.  She made me see the light… that unless you have your jewelry displayed, you tend to wear the same pieces over… and over again.  I decided it was high time to cut back and organize my jewelry so that I could enjoy my seasonal and special pieces more often. So first thing is first, before my run to Home Depot, I went through my boxes and made a giveaway, keep, and play pile.

Shane then helped me to measure out the space in my closet where I would hang the organizer.  Since I am short, and I need a step stool for everything, this was quite helpful.  I didn’t want to set this too low; as it would possibly cause a battle with my kids playing with the pieces.  The space is not too large, but enough for me to hang the necklaces that are often tangled, and the bracelets that are always buried at the bottom of my boxes.  After a quick measure, we set off to Home Depot for the goods.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

DIRECTIONS:

First, you will need to use the measurements that apply to your personal jewelry organizer.  We had Home Depot help us to cut both the pegboard, and the decorative moulding to fit in our unique space.  {One less thing to do, or if you have saws at your home you can do it there.  However, it’s free of charge at the store.}  Once I got home I put down and drop cloth and started to spray paint the pegboard.  While the pegboard was drying {I spray painted it with several coats to make sure it was even}, I painted the moulding white.  Paint and allow time to thoroughly dry.  It may take a few coats to cover up the wood.  Or to simplify, you can buy your moulding already painted {it may cost a bit more}.

After the pegboard and moulding were dry, I laid them out to make sure they fit properly.  {I visually needed to see how I was going to set it up before we placed it in the closet.}

Next, we brought the project upstairs.  After much thought, and because our wall is directly behind our shower, we decided to reinforce the area with some wood pieces that we actually nailed the jewelry organizer to.  Depending on your space, and what is behind your wall, you may be able to simply drill the whole project into your wall.  It is not a heavy piece, but once the jewelry hangs, it may weigh down a bit.

Lastly I added the hooks and my jewelry….

There you have it!  Your own jewelry organizer!  I love that I can now see all of my baubles! They are easily displayed to my liking.  I feel like I am in a store… LOVE it!  We hope you love it, too.

Okay… now on to some fun business.  Our GIVEAWAY!  Do you like what you see? If so, you will for sure LOVE winning a beautiful bracelet from the Spring Line of Stella and Dot.  The winner will be announced this Friday {January 24, 2014}. The chosen person will win a gorgeous Amelie Sparkle Bracelet in Peach.  Click {here} to view…
