It’s the day before the Fourth of July, and you need to make a quick appetizer… this easy Firehouse Salsa is sure to make your holiday spicy and fun!   Who doesn’t love a good restaurant salsa?{Not to mention some salty tortilla chips!}  They are a favorite of mine, but I have to admit I am a salsa snob. Both Sara and I are married to firefighters, and let’s just say they have to know how to cook.  Yes it wasn’t something that they knew before entering the fire department, but it was something that they had to learn.  When my husband was working as a reserve, the fire department he was volunteering for prided themselves on making the BEST salsa in the area and this is their secret recipe…..  

Fresh jalapeno and serrano peppers for Firehouse SalsaI promise this Firehouse Salsa is a simple as it looks!  A few ingredients chopped and dumped into your blender.  An easy flip of a switch and you have yourself a spicy yet delicious batch of salsa.  I can eat this all summer long!

Serves: 5

  • 1 Serrano Pepper
  • 2 Jalapenos
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 14 oz. Stewed Tomatoes
  • 1 White Onion
  • 1 bunch Cilantro
  • 5 Cloves of Garlic
  1. Smoke the peppers over an open stove or barbeque flame until they are charred (a little blacked).
  2. Cut the peppers in half.
  3. Quarter the onion.
  4. Cut the garlic cloves in half.
  5. In the base of a blender, add the tomatoes, then dump the peppers, onion, and garlic.
  6. Turn on the blender.
  7. Blend until chunky.
  8. Add the salt, and a small handful of cilantro.
  9. Blend again until you reach a chunky or smooth salsa consistency.

      Thanks Jamie….don’t you love it?! I would love to make it in large batches and freeze, but it doesn’t work. Fresh salsa is hard to beat. Glad you tried it and liked it! xoxo
